JUL ’12 – iPIXA is the latest company to embrace HD-SDI (High Definition Serial Digital Interface)technology. We have released a new range of HD-SDI cameras and DVRs. HD-SDI is a major breakthrough in the security industry enabling the transmission of uncompressed digital video which is a higher quality than IP, yet uses the same simple installation method as analog coaxial cable. It also does not require expert IT support.
iPIXA’s HD-SDI products operate at 1080p progressive scan 1980 pixels x 1080 pixel resolution and 50/60fps. Unlike HD-IP CCTV, HD-SDI (HDcctv) uses no compression at all, so image quality is optimized fully. It even enables installers to offer a digital upgrade to analog systems, allowing the re-use of their existing coaxial cable infrastructure to save money.
HD-SDI is presented in 16:9 widescreen format, meaning no black bars appear on monitors. Transmission distances are currently 100 meters and similar to IP. However, developments in SDI specific fibre optic transmission systems are extending transmission distances to many kilometers.
MAY ’12 – Binit Shah who has over 12 years CCTV, IP & Access Control experience joins iPIXA Inc. as the company’s Executive Marketing Director
AUG ’11 – iPIXA Inc. have recently launched a unique range of high quality cameras featuring the “Pixim Seawolf Digital Pixel System” sensor offering 690TVL Effective Horizontal Resolution, the best indicator of CCTV camera effectiveness in capturing detail in an image. The new Pixim enabled cameras display great quality pictures with good color rendition for most low light and extreme light application types.
CCTV cameras capture two-dimensional images, but for decades the video security industry has only been provided with a one-dimensional specification for horizontal resolution. There are historical reasons for this based upon how the original tube-based cameras worked, but the practice of specifying HTVL has not changed primarily because analog CCD image sensors are inherently limited in terms of their effective vertical resolution, and that handicaps their overall effective resolution.
Vertical Resolution Limitations of Analog CCD Sensors
It’s important to understand the inherent limitation placed on vertical resolution by an imaging solution that relies on interlaced image capture. Analog CCD sensors used in video surveillance cameras capture interlaced video using a process called line-pair summation. This improves low-light sensitivity somewhat and acts as a low pass filter, but has a side effect of decreasing the effective vertical resolution by 25%. This means that a 480 line CCD sensor is limited to a maximum vertical resolution of 360 lines and that the image’s total resolution is decreased by 25%. That’s unfortunate for the end user because DVRs and display monitors are very capable of utilizing all 480 lines of vertical resolution.
Imagers that perform progressive image capture, as is the case with Pixim’s Digital Pixel System®technology, maintain the full vertical resolution.
